A healthier indoor climate with Wilfa’s Best-in-Test humidifier

After a month of using Wilfa’s Haze humidifier, a family in Fornebu says the air at home feels noticeably better and less dry.

“I’d recommend a humidifier to everyone in winter. You simply get a better indoor climate, and you feel better,” says Jannicke. She and her family have tried Wilfa’s top, test-winning humidifier model, Haze, for a month and they’re genuinely impressed.

Jannicke lives with her husband and child, two cats and a dog in a stylish, modern flat in Fornebu. With lots of construction nearby, they ventilate less than they’d like to avoid bringing in building dust. In winter, they also prefer a warm home, using radiators for heating. Warm air combined with less ventilation can often make indoor air feel drier, something a humidifier is designed to help with.

To see how it performed, they moved the humidifier around the flat and tried it in different rooms. Jannicke says she can’t praise the effect enough. Overall, the family feels the air has become more comfortable and less dry. She also thinks she’s had to dust shelves and furniture less than before, and that there seems to be less pet hair around. A humidifier can help airborne particles settle, which may explain her experience.

– A brilliant machine

Jannicke describes the humidifier as brilliant to use, with practical solutions such as a removable water tank that can be filled at the sink and carried easily using the top handle. She also likes that it looks good in the room and feels solid and well-made.

She points out that it’s quiet too: “I’m usually sensitive to noise, but I barely hear it when everything is completely quiet. And the sound is almost soothing, it’s not irritating at all”.

The humidifier blends elegantly into the stylish interior of the apartment in Fornebu.

An app that's easy to use

The app connectivity gets plenty of praise as well. “It actually works! And I managed to connect it on the first try.” Jannicke often finds apps a bit fiddly, but she says Wilfa’s WiLife app is straightforward and gives good control. She highlights one moment in particular: “One day I forgot to switch it off when I left for work and remembered on the bus. But it was easy, I just opened the app and turned it off.”

Helpful for dry skin

Jannicke’s 10-year-old daughter has previously struggled with dry skin, which, at its worst, became an itchy and sore rash. With the humidifier in her bedroom, they noticed an improvement after a short time.

Her daughter also found it fascinating to watch the mist coming out of the humidifier. Because Haze is an ultrasonic humidifier, the mist is created by vibrations rather than heat. With both children and pets at home, Jannicke appreciates that the mist isn’t hot.

There are different types of humidifiers, each with its own benefits. Read more about Wilfa humidifiers and what they can do for you:

Quick facts: humidity and humidifiers

  • In winter, indoor humidity can drop as low as 10–20%. Many people feel most comfortable at around 40–50% humidity.
  • Low humidity can contribute to dry mucous membranes, dry eyes, frizzy hair, and dry, cracked skin.
  • Furniture, wooden floors and musical instruments also benefit from a certain level of humidity to help prevent drying and cracking.
  • Increasing indoor humidity may help reduce energy use: higher relative humidity can make the room feel warmer, meaning you may be able to lower the thermostat slightly without feeling colder.
