Healthy and good oat waffles, perfectly suitable as a substitute for bread, breakfast, packed lunches and evening meals.
This is what you need
(10-12 pieces)
4 dl oatmeal
- 1 dl wheat flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1-2 tsp cardamom
- 5 dl milk
- 2 eggs
- 4-5 tablespoons of liquid margarine or oil
Add a little honey if you want a slightly sweeter taste
How to do it
- Mix together oatmeal, wheat flour, sugar, baking powder and cardamom.
- Stir in the milk and stir until it becomes a lump-free batter.
- Mix in beaten egg and margarine or oil.
- Let the batter stand and swell for at least 15 minutes before frying the waffles.
TIP!
- You can easily make the batter in the blender. First pour in oatmeal and run the blender until it becomes oatmeal. Then pour in all the liquid and run the blender again. Add all the dry ingredients and mix until the batter has a smooth consistency.
- If you keep the batter in the fridge, it will thicken. Then you can add more milk before frying. Stir with a spoon if you have the batter in the blender as it will most likely be too thick for the blender.
- Oatmeal gives the waffles good taste and consistency. They also contain a lot of the healthy unsaturated fat. Feel free to also use oil or liquid margarine, possibly melted vegetable margarine.
- Coarse waffles can be more difficult to release from the waffle iron. Then it might be a good idea to grease the iron before mixing it in. Fry the waffles well to prevent the waffles from splitting or sticking to the iron. Carefully lift the lid and you will see if the waffle comes loose. If not, let it cook a little longer.
