Basic recipe for waffle batter & tips

Freshly baked waffles always taste good. Here is a simple basic recipe with ingredients most people have at home. If you want other varieties, you can easily add, change a couple of ingredients, see tips below.

This is what you need
  • 4 dl wheat flour
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 4 dl milk
  • 5 eggs
  • 100 g melted butter

 How to do it

  1. Mix everything into a smooth batter

  2. Let it swell for half an hour before you start frying

  3. Fry

  4. Eat!

You can eat the waffles warm without anything on them, or try the traditional accompaniments, such as sour cream and jam, or butter and brown cheese. Waffles taste extra good with a good cup of coffee.

HINT!

Oat Waffles

Replace half of the wheat flour with oat flour or lightly cooked oatmeal.

Coarse waffles

Replace half of the wheat flour with whole meal flour and/or all-purpose flour.

Citrus waffles

Add some finely grated orange and/or lemon peel. Wash the lemon before grating the peel. Use only the yellow/orange part of the peel.

Carrot waffles

Add 1-2 grated carrots.

Banana waffles

Add 1-2 mashed bananas.

Chocolate waffles

Add 100-200 grams of chopped chocolate.

Dairy waffles

Replace the milk with sour cream, cream, sour milk or similar.

Potato waffles

Add 1-2 grated potatoes.

Cheese waffles
Make regular waffle batter, but without sugar. Add 100-200 grams of grated cheese.
