Crispy toasties made in the waffle iron with brie, bacon and gooseberry jam. You can use any type of cheese and all the cheese accompaniments you like. Serve with apple slices sprinkled with a few drops of lemon for a crispy, sweet and sour snack on the side.
The toasties are almost as good vegetarian, so bacon is not a must. If you want a meat substitute, use a slice of lightly fried aubergine brushed with olive oil.
How to make crispy blings
-
Add the jam
Place the bread slices on a board and spread a little gooseberry jam on all the slices. -
Fill the toasties
Add a few slices of bacon and brie, and close the toasties. -
Bake in the waffle iron
Drizzle a little olive oil on both sides of the toasties and bake them in the waffle iron until crispy.
Tips:
- For a really crispy result, bake a little longer than the indicator shows.
- These toasties are very good with something sweet. If you don't have gooseberry jam, pear or fig marmalade is a great alternative.
- This also works well with bread in a sandwich toaster.
