Waffle Day
Waffles are a bit of a Norwegian tradition, and Norwegians hold a special love for waffle hearts.
Waffles have a long history in Norway, dating back to the 1800s. At Wilfa, we are dedicated to creating waffle makers that deliver the best waffles, leading to repeated test winners and bestsellers.
March 25th is International Waffle Day, and we encourage everyone to dust off their waffle irons and serve waffles to friends and family. Give your waffle iron a deserved place on your kitchen counter or wherever you love to make waffles.
8 tips for the best waffles.
Create evenly cooked, crispy, and juicy waffles every time. Experiment with new waffle recipes, and don't forget that using a cleaning waffle will keep the iron as good as new.
1. Crispy outside, juicy inside.
The best waffles come from irons with built-in air vents, allowing excess steam to escape. This results in waffles that are crispy on the outside and remain juicy on the inside.
2. Even cooking for best results.
A waffle iron that cooks evenly is crucial for great results. The design of the iron plays a big role. Our waffle irons feature conically shaped plates and air vents. Together, these ensure that the waffle batter spreads evenly throughout the iron, and excess air escapes. This also means you don’t need to manually spread the batter with a ladle.
3. La røren svelle
Let the batter rest. Allow the batter to sit for 15-30 minutes for fluffier waffles.
4. Avoid thin batter
Avoid thin waffle batter, especially when using oats or wholemeal flour, as it can make the waffles stick to the iron.
5. Crispy waffles
Place waffles individually on a rack to keep them crispy. Add a bit of sparkling water to the batter for extra crispness.
6. Make batter in a blender
Use a blender for a smooth, lump-free batter, especially with wholemeal or vegetable waffles.
7. Use wooden/plastic tools
Only use wooden or plastic utensils to protect the waffle iron’s coating.
8. Wholemeal waffles
Wholemeal waffles stick more easily, so grease the iron every second or third waffle.
